Yves Saint Laurent was born in Algeria but studied fashion at the Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture school in 1954 in Paris. During this time he became Christian Dior’s assistant and later in 1957 took over for Dior after he passed away. He then designed for the theatre and finally launched his house in 1961 presenting his first collection in 1962.
